Young people within families where there is parental substance misuse issues sometimes develop problematic relationships with drugs and alcohol themselves. Family Focus runs a number of young people’s programmes to address issues including substance misuse and associated emotional wellbeing difficulties. In addition to weekly activity support groups for teenagers with substance misusing parents, Family Focus has delivered residential support packages to groups of young people involved in “binge drinking”. The aims of these residentials are to increase individual’s knowledge around personal safety, substance misuse related harm and sexual health. There is a large emphasis on harm reduction behaviours and solution focused approach to family relationship difficulties.
